This novel study for The Pigman by Paul Zindel includes 43 pages of great materials that cover many different skills. The materials include reading companion guides for each chapter that allow students to be active readers, an informal assessment, and daily activities for each chapter/ reading chunk. The activities included give students practice with the following skills: literary analysis, characterization, point of view, figurative language, conflict, main idea, vocabulary, cause and effect, summarization, and making inferences!
When I read the novel with my class, the students really enjoyed the reading companion guides and the variety of the daily activities. The engagement level with the novel was very high and the students were able to show their comprehension of the novel without answering multiple choice questions.
