The Pinballs by Betsy Byars
The Pinballs Chapter Summaries and Objective Tests
This forty-page page resource for teaching Betsy Byars' story of three foster children has two components.
(1) Chapter Summaries
The detail CHAPTER SUMMARIES are presented in bulleted format for quick reference. These summaries are a valuable resource for quickly becoming familiar with a title when time is limited or for refreshing memory when using the novel from year to year. They are also convenient for locating a specific story event or character.
(2) Objective Tests
The series of OBJECTIVE TESTS (multiple choice, true/false, yes/no) cover the novel chapter-by-chapter and as a whole book test (matching style).
Students will find it necessary to read the material carefully and thoroughly for FACTUAL CONTENT in order to score well on these quizzes. They do not require story interpretation, nor do they address elements of literature.
Pinballs Objective Tests can be put to use as whole-class discussion guides, small group or independent reading guides, homework study guides, and conferencing tools in addition to, or in lieu of, their function as comprehension checks. They are also a reliable resource for managing reading programs that involve the use of multiple titles in one classroom.
Feedback indicates that these quizzes are a good resource for close reading instruction.
Full answer keys are included.
