This graphic organizer/extended response worksheet is a perfect introduction to the Gothic period or Dark Romantics. After the initial lecture/instruction about the characteristics of the period, students can use their notes to complete respond to each prompt. The notes are provided on the last page and work best when presented first in a PowerPoint slideshow prior to watching the film.
This assignment is designed to work with the 1962 adaptation of the film staring Vincent Price (see Amazon). The film definitely does not follow Poe's short story, but it is a great example of Dark Romanticism. The movie is overly dramatic, and I run subtitles, but my students love it.
It is uploaded as a Word document so you may remove the examples or italicized notes used to scaffold for various learners.
