This activity is meant to be used after reading Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum.” It is a Jigsaw activity in which each student has different roles in a group. The groups explore different elements of the story - symbolism, themes, and emotions - and then present to each other.
This is a really fun activity to do with your students, but it is also a rigorous activity that really requires them to explore the text for deeper meaning.
The first page is the directions sheet to give to each student. Following that are the group assignments. Give one to each student to assign groups, themes, etc. The last page is the grading rubric.
