“I pledge allegiance…” What does that mean? We say The Pledge every day in school and at other special events, but what does it mean? There are some BIG words in our Pledge that first grade minds are curious to know about… words like “allegiance,” “republic,” and “indivisible.” This Pledge of Allegiance activity superimposes simpler terms for those BIG words. Now when our first graders say The Pledge, they can say it with meaning and purpose. Display completed projects on red and blue background paper to demonstrate that first graders are patriotic citizens!
This product, in addition to stimulating the mind, stimulates the body in exercising first graders’ fine motor skills. It involves cutting, folding, and gluing. This activity aligns with the State of Virginia Standards of Learning, more specifically History and Social Sciences 1.11, and English 1.2 and 1.3.
