Crossword puzzle (with solution) based on the play by Sean O'Casey.
There are 37 words in the puzzle - each clue relates to a character, a location, a military group, an historical figure, or is a keyword from a quotation.
This is an active learning activity, which challenges students. It could be used as an in-class activity or as a homework assignment. I find that students enjoy the crossword format, and they view it as more fun than other assignment tasks/activities.
As a summary quiz, this is designed to be used after studying the play. It is a great revision exercise. It jogs students' memories of characters, ideas and places mentioned in the play. I've written the clues with as much detail as possible, so that students will remember key facts.
The solution appears on the second page. Download the preview file to see the grid and the words used in the puzzle.
A word bank is included to assist students. You could redact this to make it more challenging. I like to use this puzzle without the word bank.
