U.S. History: Ideas that Work
* Built-In Differentiation
* Student centered; Inquiry based
* Common Core ELA Aligned
* Depth of Knowledge design
This plan that focuses on the Pilgrims, their settlement of Plymouth Colony, and their adoption of the Mayflower Compact may be used as a stand-alone or as a part of a larger unit for US History: Ideas that Work, Unit 1, Becoming a People. (Each component will be uploaded to teacherspayteachers.com as it is completed. It is aligned with the NCSS C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards, Common Core Language Standards for History, and the current Georgia Performance Standards for US History.
Students will learn by reading and interpreting both primary and secondary historical sources. They will have options for the use of technology, and those who need assistance in the writing process will have stems provided to guide them. This is NOT a unit targeting advanced learners. It is designed for differentiation so that all learners can stretch themselves into thinking patterns and performance that will give them success.
Included in this packet is a printable and easy-to-use summative grading rubric and suggested procedure. Formative assessments may be made informally using the space for notes at the bottom of the rubric, but I hope you’ll choose to use the Station Rotation Card in my store. (It was a lifesaver in my own classroom).
Please follow me and keep coming back to my TPT store as I continue to work for you! I wish for you the very best in your teaching practice.
