Do you need a fun, student-centered activity to add to your existing poetry toolbox? Check out this engaging poetry challenge for middle or high school students. It's a dice game that can be used with any poem (although poems that are rich in sound devices and figurative language are preferable).
Get students involved in analyzing poetry, identifying figurative language, and thinking like a poet as they talk with their small group about any poem of your choice. The game contains questions that will encourage students to think about a poem's structure, types of poems, figurative language, sound devices, a poet's voice, a poem's meaning, and more. Some questions apply to poetry in general, and others are geared specifically toward the poem students will have in front of them as they play this game.
This poetry activity is great for when you have extra time, as a review for a quiz or test, as a supplemental exercise, as a differentiation option, and as a station activity.
***This activity is also sold as part of a larger ELA games bundle
