This packet is meant to be used in conjunction with the novel study for "The Port Chicago 50" and support students' comprehension of the text. Included are chapter breakdowns, critical thinking/open-ended questions, areas for students to document both physical and chronological setting, as well as mood. In addition, there is a page at the back of the packet where students can document evidence of themes that they are seeing be developed throughout the course of the novel.
Note: Since majority of these questions are open-ended and require knowledge of the C-E-R model, there is not an answer key for this packet; however, the way the questions are structured will allow for the class to engage in meaningful discussions, based on their responses. Also, this novel study has been aligned with the 8th grade curriculum; however, it could be adapted for other grades as well.
