The positive tree is an exciting way to get students to be aware of their behaviors. Each day, the student will start out with a blank stump. To start the day, they color in ONLY the stump brown. If and when they show a positive behavior (helping others, completing work, asking for help) they can add one green tree branch. If a negative behavior occurs, they draw a brown tree branch. However, the brown branches can grow green leaves if the behavior is corrected. If there is a sudden change in schedule and the child is flexible, they can create a "Flexible Flower" on their sheet.
This activity is exciting because each day, the tree will look very different. Students are now becoming aware of their behaviors and work towards being more positive. The students love this because it makes the tree unique and special, just like them.
