This is a guided viewing worksheet for Steven Spielberg's 2017 film the Post. It is designed to keep the students engaged and focused as they watch this exciting and educational film. The assignment is broken up into four separate parts. Each part is separated by page so that it may be easily added or removed to fit the time constraints of your classroom. The segments included are as follows:
Section 1: "Pre-Viewing Questions"
-This section is designed to engage the students prior to beginning the film and provide them with the proper historical context for the events in the film. It consists of six short answer questions that the students can easily research online prior to viewing the film in class.
Section 2: "Character Key"
-In this segment, students match the names of each character with a small thumbnail image of them. The purpose is to give the students a proper key for use as they watch and discuss the film.
Section 3: "Guided Viewing"
-This section is the bulk of the assignment. It consists of twenty short answer questions that follow the plot and events of the film. They occur every few minutes and are detailed enough so as to require attentive viewing on the part of the students.
Section 4: "Essay"
-This section comprises of a detailed essay prompt that tasks the students with weighing and analyzing the delicate balance between the roles of the press and the government.
Lastly a detailed key is included for all sections except the essay portion.
