Product Description
Here is a Great Way to Help Your Students develop a Growth Mindset!
Teach them the Power of the word YET!

Have a class discussion about the following 2 statements:
I Can't Do It.
I Can't Do It Yet!
Discuss what adding one word does to the whole meaning of the statement, the possibilities and how it changes the outlook of the statement.
Have students recall and chart one thing that they can't do yet and have them recall and chart one thing that they can do now but it took a lot of practice and work.
Help them embrace the idea that they achieved the goal not because they were smart but because they did the WORK.
Prepare the 2 Pledge Sheets. Discuss the difference between the 2 pledges. Have everyone sign the pledge sheet that states which pledge they will honor this year. Post the pledge sheets in the classroom.
There is also a chart ready to be developed into an anchor chart of Power Words kids need to know. These power words are the words that students will use to help them move towards success. Place the word 'practice' on the chart. Ask students, "What other words would fit with practice and would help us grow?" Add the appropriate word choices.

Now your students are ready to make an individual example of something they can't do YET. Have them select the power words they will need to use to reach their goal. There is also a second reflection choice that gives students the opportunity to share several things they can do and can't do - yet. The teacher will select which option to use or might decide to do both.

There is also an anchor chart available to discuss and develop the idea of the class becoming a Home Team and using the Home Team Advantage to help each other grow. On the anchor chart the students will list words that they can use with each other that are encouraging and supportive. Make sure that everyone understands that as people are struggling to improve they need support and encouragement and the words we use have a powerful impact.
A list of words that teachers can use to help students believe they can grow are also included.
At the end of the year there is an Awards page. Every child gets to fill in the awards page if they honored their pledge to work hard on a task. Some students will now be able to do their goal and can share how they made the achievement happen. Other students might not be there - yet, so they fill in the award with pride knowing that they worked hard and are getting closer and closer to owning the accomplishment.

The teacher can send each student a postcard to foster communication with each family. There are 8 different postcards included for teachers to print on card stock.
