The Prefix/Suffix Game is a true formative assessment to informally assess student learning after initial teaching of the use of prefixes, suffixes, and how they change the meaning of base words. The objective of the game is to correctly identify which word corresponds to a given clue (each word contains a base word with either a prefix or a suffix).
Project Answer Word page and distribute clue cards to students. They may determine the answer to the clue card through pair-share, or individually. Once student determines an answer from the Answer Word page, he or she may read aloud their clue card in front of the class, and state his/her answer. Rest of class can give thumbs up/down to signal if they agree with the student's stated answer. Teacher confirms if answer is right or wrong. The next student presents his clue card and answer in the same way until all students have presented their cards and answers.
