This is a small group reader's theater is for 4 students. In the script - A queen wants only the best for her son the prince. Now that he is old enough this means she wants a REAL princess for him. A real princess is beautiful, smart, and sensitive. The prince has traveled everywhere looking for one but every princess he meets has something wrong. Then, there is a dark and stormy night and a girl shows up. She claims to be a true princess and the queen decides to test her. She puts a pea under the mattress and, when the princess, can’t sleep she passes the test. They get married and live happily ever after. There is a writing prompt for the students to do at the bottom of the last page.
Third graders need to be on level and may need some extra support to be successful. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. My scripts are in black and white with only the occasional color picture on front so they are cheaper and easier to photo copy. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice and you get less off task behaviors.
My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. If you like this script look for more fairy tale related scripts at my store. Please let me know how things go!
