This is a detailed description of the Principles and Elements of Design, both visually and literally. It is meant as a handout, a resource guide for your students to keep in their sketchbooks or journals. You could hand out only one section at a time as a precursor to that particular lesson plan on one principle at a time.
It is colour rich, so access to colour reproduction would be essential. Further, it includes a couple of activities to demonstrate simultaneous colour contrast, which is usually hard to explain. I have also created a lesson plan with construction paper shapes that utilizes each and all of the above.
