I used this project in French 2, and at the end of the year evaluations, tons of students listed it as their favorite project.
This is a written project, and although most students make a poster (on the computer or by hand), I have had AWESOME 3-D projects turned in as well. Basically, students invent their own cities (hence, "Sim City") and tell all about it. I've had some very creative projects with interesting themes--NoëlVille, MusiqueVille, Hunger Games Ville, etc.--and kids get into personalizing it.
This project focuses on the following vocabulary/grammatical concepts:
-places in town vocabulary
-prepositions (ex: the bakery is NEXT TO the post office)
-directions using the imperative (ex: allez tout droit)
-verbs associated with places (ex: A la boulangerie, j'achète des baguettes)
-the pronoun Y with transportation (ex: J'y vais à vélo)
This is a Word doc so you can change the requirements and/or grade sheet to fit whatever you would like!
*note: this is the SAME Sim City project listed in my Places in Town Vocabulary category
