With everything that we have to cover in a school year, using interdisciplinary projects just makes common sense. This resource covers some overall expectations from the Ontario Arts, Social Studies and Language Arts Curriculums.
Students choose a province or territory that they will research. They present their findings in one of three ways, whichever one they are most comfortable with (a poster, a diorama or using technology such as a video, a slideshow etc.). Giving students choices allows them to take control in their learning and is the perfect way to differentiate. Through other presentations, students learn all about the other provinces and territories as well.
Once students are familiar with the provinces and territories, they prepare a publicity advertisement to attract tourists. It is up to you whether you want them to prepare a radio ad (which could be recorded on iPads) or a television ad (which could also meet expectations in the Drama strand of the Arts curriculum).
The following is included:
- overall expectations from the latest Ontario Social Studies, Language Arts and Arts
- student criteria checklist
- planning pages
- 2 rubrics based on the Ontario Curriculum
- photos of student projects
