This product was created to go along with the story “The Quilt Story” written by Tony Johnston and Tomie dePaola. The bundle includes vocabulary/sight word cards to help improve fluency if students are expected to read on their own. There is a set of pre-reading questions that are designed for students to complete before introduction to the story, this helps to set the stage and build background knowledge. A worksheet with 17 various types of questions based on comprehension is included. Next comes a synonym worksheet with various words from the story. My favorite sequencing activity is also included where students will cut out events from the story and glue them into the correct order. This can be a quick activity or drawn out with added time for illustrations. An extended writing activity will have students pretending to be one of the two main girls in the story. A nonfiction reading passage about the importance of quilts during the westward journey is great to help students understand wagon travel! This packet would work great as a social studies unit, or with a substitute. I have also used them in center rotations! If you like this product be sure to check out “Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt” or “The Patchwork Quilt”! They follow the same format! Thank you for checking out my product! Perfect for 1st through 3rd Grade!
