Everything you need to accompany Marcus Pfister’s "The Rainbow Fish" (This resource is a companion to the book. You will need to purchase the book separately).
This resource is perfect to use with early elementary students, children with Autism, special needs or who demonstrate difficulties in their receptive and/or expressive language and benefit from the use of visual cues.
This 31 page resource includes:
-Lesson Plan and Data Sheet: set objectives and monitor progress while reading the story. Document progress for 18+ specific WH-questions that are organized by question type and written out for you!
-Communication Board: visual aid to accompany the story to help nonverbal and minimally verbal students respond to wh-questions, develop syntax and expand utterance length. These boards are made using modified Fitzgerald Key colors to provide an additional visual cue for students to respond to questions.
-Picture symbols to adapt your book: add visual supports to each page!
-Build your own scene: laminate to use again and again! This activity comes with a list of therapy ideas such as having each student "share a scale" from the rainbow fish with the other fish in the scene.
-Sequence the Story: an activity to practice story recall, narrative language and sequencing.
-Build Your Own Scene Open-ended Craft Activity: color, cut and glue ocean animals from the book into an ocean scene.
-Semantic Feature Analysis: practice language processing skills by using visual cues to help students describe a fish!
-The Rainbow Fish Award: give students a certificate for sharing with a peer during speech therapy or in the classroom!
-Leveled Worksheets/Homework: check for understanding to ensure recall and comprehension of the story.
-WH-question worksheet with visual cues and questions organized by question type. Students can respond by writing single words, phrases or sentences.
