Emotional regulation in children is one of the foundational skills that allows them to move into social and learning situations successfully. By teaching children how to understand, identify, and successfuly control their emotions we are giving them the gift of self-managment.
** Early childhood is the perfect opportunity to introduce concepts of emotional regulation to children and this book uses play and the familiar concept of the rainbow to help them understand some of the core elements of emotional regulation. It helps to lay a strong foundation so that as they grow they are able to react and respond to situations with tools that help them manage otherwise frustrating, confusing, or angry feelings that might cause them to "Blow their top"
** The Rainbow of Feelings curriciulum was developed as a tool for young children out of a need in early education to find ways to introduce emotional regulation in a way that is comfortable, fun, and easy to understand for children participating in preschool through second grade. The information starts by describing the process and consists of 8 lessons focused on teaching mindful emotional regulation to children in early childhood through introducing mindfulness, body awareness, and tools and strategies for managing emotions. It is easily adaptable for different developmental levels/ranges and works in both both classroom and small group settings. This curriculum has many of the other activities included in my other supplemental activities for the zones of regulation with MANY more that have streamlined into a program that guides children through the process of learning about strategies they can use.
The graphics were developed with minimal color to support black and white printing. The portions that are color are specific to the rainbow with easy to print and assemble instructions.
