This Budget activity randomly assigns a group of students a family unit which gives them details on number of members, ages and any college degrees. Some are single parent families, some traditional and one has two moms.
the 3rd page of activity has chance cards- I don't tell about these at beginning but on 2nd day of activity each group has to draw one, some give extra money(overtime etc.), but most are an unplanned expense.
The activity guides them through finding a job, housing and a car and provides links on how to figure payments. The students are tasked with creating a budget for their family which allows them to survive and still have money left at the end of the month. I use this with my Family Budget Spreadsheet (also available on TPT) which has lines for all the budget items and auto calculates taxes, savings, total income and expenses. You could also use my career research activity beforehand to have them find real world jobs with pay to plug into their budget.
