I wanted an interesting and engaging way to introduce The Protestant Reformation. Have you read the 95 Theses? Wow... heavy stuff! This activity asks students to interact with dense readings and HAVE FUN with it!
This activity has a couple steps and could be taught over a couple days.
1. First, students are asked to write their own theses. In this download is a PDF scroll for students to fill out. I have my kids ceremoniously pound up their theses with my classroom gavel!
2. Next, I have students re write the original theses in today's language on numbered note cards (PDF) and collect them. We play a little game and see if the kids can guess which ones go where!?
In this download:
Our theses scroll (PDF)
"Our Theses" letters in MTF Jumpin Jack
Luther's 95 Theses (PDF with border)
Luther's 95 Theses (in Word editable)
95 numbered notecards (PDF)
Teacher/student example (shown on thumbnail, included jpeg in download).
