This is an activity packet to go along with The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant.
If you are familiar with my other work packets this has activities that are stream-lined with those. This allows the students to know what to expect and my expectations for them. After a few books they know exactly what needs to be done and I can use these activities for my groups if I need to assess or to keep my students acountable during rotations.
There are activities that can be done as whole group, guided reading, small group, partners or one-on-one. To cover all of the skills it should take a week with different mini-lessons using the same book but you are able to cover them all on one day if interested. It can be used to reinforce skills already covered in the classroom.
It can also be left in your substitute plans to consist of a varied reading block.
Some of the activities are short "Exit Ticket" assessments. These are great for making sure your kids are staying on track and focused without long assessments that take away from teaching time.
Skills emphasized in this packet are:
Fact or Opinion
Word Wall Words
At Home Connection
