This is a role-playing exercise designed to help students understand the events that led to the American Revolution. They will also realize how some were harmed by the British actions in the late 18th century, while others were affected little. Eighteen colonial role cards are provided, you can duplicate the set for larger classes as needed. Each student will be asked to respond to British actions based on the background of their character. Students will move around the room to the provided signs which best illustrate how they think their character would have responded. A student note taking guide is also provided for students to take notes on the British actions and the colonists' responses. Events include: The Proclamation of 1763, the Sugar Acts, The Stamp Acts, the Townshend acts, the Boston Massacre, The Intolerable Acts, the raid on Concord.
