Introduce students to the events leading to the American Revolution by putting students in the shoes of the American colonists. Students will be able to identify how colonists might have felt after being taxed without their consent through this experiential activity.
Lesson Overview: In this lesson the teacher will read a fictional letter/email from the school administration notifying students that the school will no longer provide students with free WiFi access because of budgetary cuts. If students wish to use WiFi at school, they will need to pay a monthly fee for access. Students will inevitably be upset, and the teacher will lead students through a discussion about the fairness of the new policy.
This lesson should be taught prior to starting a unit on the events that led to the American Revolution, and would work best if taught directly after having finished a unit on the French and Indian War.
