Product Description
The Roanoke Colony Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- this is a 10 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teacher’s key for easy marking. It contains 21 questions based on a historical review video and an article about the Lost Colony of Roanoke.

Students will begin this activity by navigating to YouTube and watching the video: The Lost Roanoke Colony and answer a set of questions based on the video. The video covers a brief history of the expedition to settle the island, the disappearance of the settlers, and several theories behind the disappearance of the settlers. Following the video, students will read an article which will provide more detail behind the exploration of the island (two previous attempts to settle/map the island were made before the famous lost colony was established), the interactions between the settlers and the local native tribes, the colonies abandonment/disappearance, the mysterious CROATOAN marking, and the Anglo-Spanish war which may have been one of the reasons behind the colonies disappearance. The article presents many theories behind the colonies disappearance such as:

- poor record keeping lost the colonies true location
- destruction of the settlement by Natives or the Spanish
- the colonists attempting to return to England and being lost at sea
- the colonists assimilating with a local Native Tribe

The article and the video both ask students to form their own hypothesis about the true fate of the colony after viewing and reading all of the provided evidence.

This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
