Instead of a boring introductory lecture to provide students with historical context for F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic The Great Gatsby, facilitate hands-on learning stations!
There are 6 stations. If you don't have time for all 6, you can pick which ones best fit the needs of your students! Each station contains a link to an informational text and a few questions. This activity can be done digitally, or you could just as easily print off the texts for each stations. This product also comes with an worksheet that students can use to record their answers for each station.
These stations were designed to emphasize key aspects that will come into play during the novel. Here is a breakdown of each station:
Station 1: Modernism
Station 2: Disillusionment & The Lost Generation
Station 3: Economy & Consumerism
Station 4: Prohibition & Organized Crime
Station 5: The Changing Role of Women
Station 6: The Jazz Age
While these work well as pre-reading for The Great Gatsby, they would also work as an introduction to the 1920s for a history class!
