This is a twist on a commonly used rock cycle activity. When students are done with this activity, they will understand that the rock cycle is not some neat and organized method of becoming a rock. There are infinite paths that a rock can take. Students will create their own rock cycle by rolling a die and then following instructions. When a whole class does this assignment, students can share the path that they went through and compare it to other students. I promote the concept that "Every rock has a story."
