This script on THE ROCK CYCLE involves students in reading and reviewing fun facts and information about the three main types of rocks – igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic; and how each type of rock can be changed into each of the other types of rock - what geologists call the Rock Cycle. The script incorporates humor and contemporary language and references. It’s part of a collection in my book CURRICULUM-BASED READERS THEATRE SCRIPTS: SCIENCE.
This script is written for solo speakers with many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class. Reading and rehearsing the script reinforces information and facts about the process that makes and recycles rocks - while also increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning facts. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. This Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script is one of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.
