The Russian Revolution Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- This is a 14 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 35 questions based on a Ted-Ed video and the BBC History website.
Students will begin this assignment by watching the Ted-Ed video: History vs. Vladimir Lenin. The video will introduce the time period and go over the key themes and events of the time. The video will review the social and economic conditions in the Russian Empire during the early 20th century. The 1905 Revolution, The Tsar's establishment of the Duma, the Great War, and Russia's failures on the battlefield are all covered. The emergence of Lenin following the fall of the Tsar in February 1917, the October Revolution, and the consequences of the Bolsheviks coming to power are then reviewed. Following the video, students will proceed to the BBC historical website and read an article which covers the Russian Revolution and the subsequent civil war. Students will learn more about Russia's poor performance on the Eastern Front, the growing discontent on the home front and the revolutions of 1917. The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, the Russian Civil War, and the intervention of the Allied Powers is then discussed.
