The food web unit is vocabulary laden and can be a bit much for students and boring for the instructor. With this activity students are working cooperatively on a project and building an understanding of the vocabulary along the way. Rather that isolating the concepts of food webs, energy pyramids, invasive species, and extinction, the students work through these concepts within one activity that lasts about two weeks. This activity will introduce not only the food web of the Sagebrush Steppe but the encroachment of the juniper (invasive species) and the possible extinction of a species (the Greater Sage Grouse).
