This script was written for four students and for Halloween. The main purpose of the story is to remind students that Halloween these days is all about pretending. In the script, Kim and James are out trick or treating when they find a ghost crying. It is crying because everything about Halloween scares it. Kim and James invite the ghost to go trick or treating with them so they can show the ghost why it shouldn’t be scared. By the end the ghost realizes that Halloween is about pretending to be scary and nothing more. It is no longer afraid. There is a short writing prompt afterwards. I write reader's theaters because I find them to be an excellent way to motivate all readers, including reluctant ones, to practice fluency. I write small group scripts because the ONLY way reader's theater works as a tool for fluency is when there is very little wait time. In scripts with lots of characters, students spend time off-task or waiting to read this does not help them become fluent. My scripts are written in black and white except the occasional photo on front and with no cute 'stuff' on them so that they can be reproduced on a copier easier and with less ink. Please note, if you are a 3rd grade teacher, your students will need a little extra help with vocabulary. My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. If they do, check out some of my other scripts. There are several for Halloween and many other topics. Thankyou!
