One of the best ways for students to learn is through games!! This lesson is fun and engaging for both the students and the teachers. It adds healthy competition to the classroom environment and promotes collaborative learning. This lesson can be used throughout the year to help students with their vocabulary.
General Lesson Objective: Student will utilize Latin and Greek root words, prefixes, and suffixes to analyze scientific terminology. Students will be actively engaged in communicating scientific terminology with their peers.
General Description of Game: Each person is provided with a "scientific name". They will read aloud the root translation of their name to the class. With the help of a Vocabulary Word Wall, students will work in groups to guess the scientific term listed on each persons scientific name card. The first person to answer each name correctly earns points for their team. The team with the most points wins!
There is a total of 30 terms--enough for a class of 30 (1 card each) or a class a 15 (2 cards each OR a separate game on a different day)
Following the suggestions and notes provided for this lesson, this lesson can be completed with in one 45 minute class period.
