Self-esteem and growth mindset are closely connected. The first scripted lesson (of two) focuses on building self-esteem, which is an important foundation to success. Students will identify their strengths and abilities in five areas. When kids have self-esteem, they believe they are important and recognize their value. They feel good about themselves and believe they can succeed at what they try. As educators, we need to continue to instill confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth in our students.
The second scripted lesson teaches the difference between a fixed and growth mindset. Students need to know that just like muscles, their brain can grow and get stronger, too. We can teach students that they have the power to make their brain grow stronger by facing challenges, giving their best effort, making mistakes, and learning from mistakes.
An important part of developing self-esteem is helping kids use a growth mindset to believe they can learn and improve in anything with effort and perseverance. When they experience success through effort and perseverance, their confidence and self-esteem soars!
