Students will read about the background of the Berlin Conference, then choose from a variety of activities to learn how it prompted the Scramble for Africa. The activities will appeal to different learning preferences and include a cartoon, map comparison, or chart. They will then reflect on the Berlin Conference's impact on Africa today. The directions are self-explanatory for this activity and all required resources are included, so it would work great for sub plans as well.
You can differentiate by student self-selection of activities based on interests/strengths. You could also differentiate based on ability level by modifying the number of activities students are required to complete or assign particular activities to particular students.
