2) A document-based activity that provides a comprehensive study of the New Deal
programs. Student's will examine a political cartoon about FDR and his plan for
court packing. They will answer questions about the cartoon to get a better
understanding of what court packing was. The rest of the activity consists of 14
primary sources that give students to opportunity to see images that display ways in
which the new deal impacted people's lives. Students will identify the New Deal
program that is being used by the picture presented. They will then fill out a chart
for the pictures that asks them to describe the program listed and then tell the
impact that it had on Americans during the Great Depression.
The great thing about this activity is that it gives you many different ways to use it. You can have the students work individually on the document or they can discuss in pairs. You can set it up in a gallery walk and have the students walk around the room discussing each program. The options for this activity are endless.
3) A detailed answer key to the lesson activity to save you time and help guide student
