Description
Engage your students in the American Revolution with this historically-accurate play based on the life of Deborah Samson, the first woman to serve in the U.S. military. Near the end of the Revolutionary War, Samson disguised herself as a man to enlist in the Continental Army, serving with valor for nearly a year. Originally published in the Nov/Dec. 2102 issue of Scholastic's Storyworks magazine and reprinted in the March 2013 issue of Scope, this play script has parts for from 10 to 17 actors (and numerous extras) depending on your casting needs. It also comes with comprehension activities, keys, and extension ideas. Ideal for grades 4 through 7 (and perhaps 8) to build reading fluency, engage students in history activities, and satisfy a host of CCSs. Fully reproducible: original purchaser is licensed to print a full class set! Download the free Google Forms version of the comprehension quiz elsewhere on my storefront, and please check out the rest of my historically-based, professionally-published reader's theater. Happy directing!
