Looking for a CC-aligned literature unit to kick off the year? Are your students fans of wizards, secret islands and royalty? Are you dying to find out what a gump is? The Secret of Platform 13 is the PERFECT book to read with your class!
This is a 16-day literature unit for the text, The Secret of Platform 13, written by Eva Ibbotson.
Each lesson is written for a 60-85 minutes literature class. Each lesson plan includes an aim, a culminating text-dependent question with a written exemplar as well as 5-12 questions planned throughout the text with the page number/line number, expected student responses and method of asking the question.
(H= hands raised, T&T = turn and talk, CC = cold call, S+J = stop and jot)
These lessons were used in a third grade classroom at the end of the year and the text is a Lexile 910 so they would be appropriate for 3rd-5th grade depending on reading levels of the students. Additionally, these lessons were taught in a high-performing charter school and were planned with Common Core question types.
I also have guide-sheets available with dedicated space for the beginning big idea jot, stop and jots throughout the text and space for the Written TDQ at the end.
