This is a great four-part diagnostic test on the parts of the sentence, including: simple subject, main verb, compound subject, compound verb, verb phrase (complete verb), and prepositional phrase.
Section I asks students to read sentences and identify the simple subject and main verb, and write each on lines next to the sentence (10).
Section II asks students to read sentences, identify and write the compound subject and complete verb underneath the sentences (4).
Section III asks students to read sentences and identify the compound verb, and write it on the lines next to the sentence (4).
Section IV asks students to read a series of sentences with certain words or phrases underlined. They are then to write whether the underlined words or phrases are verbs, subjects, or prepositional phrases (8).
Total of 26 questions. Students write directly on test. I have included an answer key.
This is a great primer for instruction, especially at the beginning of the year or unit.
Suitable for grades 7-12.
