We know that learning sight words will improve a student’s overall reading ability. Knowing sight words will also improve a student’s confidence. Sight word instruction should not be taught in isolation without literacy instruction. Learning sight words is a successful strategy for students with learning disabilities and struggling readers.
Sight words should be presented and read several times before a student can be considered as having mastered a sight word. Students should be able to recognize the sight word in isolation and in the context of books.
This sight word system was designed to help you easily manage teaching sight words throughout the school year. Different schools and districts have different requirements and lists for teaching sight words. This unit is completely editable to help you fit your school’s requirement for sight words. Assessments, activities, and flash cards are easily customizable to fit your needs.
You can mix and match the items provided in this system to fit your classroom needs. However, if you would like to set up this system like I have in my classroom you will need the following: Ikea picture frames, binder rings, and ASTROBRIGHTS colored paper (10 color pack).
