The Sign of the Beaver Vocabulary Study is a 16-page resource for teaching Elizabeth George Speare's 1984 Newbery Honor Book.
The file begins with an alphabetical listing of eighty-eight vocabulary words taken from The Sign of the Beaver along with their page number(s).
Next, for teacher convenience, is a series of chapter-by-chapter word lists with definitions that present the targeted vocabulary words in story order and identify their location by page number. Each word list is coupled with companion student worksheets that require interpretive use of a dictionary.
These pages are designed to be used BEFORE reading so that students will have some knowledge of the words when they encounter them again in story context.
The final portion includes word usage or analysis activities that may be assigned BEFORE or DURING the reading process.
Full keys are included.
