This lesson is provides active learning opportunities while learning about the letter S.
Children will identify the /s/ sound as the teacher reads the book, Sacredy Cat Splat! (This lesson could easily be adapted to compliment any picture book that repeats "s" words! I choose this book because it was close to Halloween when we were learning about the letter S, and this particular Splat the cat book is filled with Silly S words!)
Included: Step by step lesson plan, which includes directions for the anticipatory set, instruction, guided practice, and closure. In addition, I included objectives and rationale for the lesson. This 7 page resource includes a picture of a stop sign that you can print, laminate and distribute to your students to use as part of the lesson. (Teacher reads sentences from Splat the Cat book and when the children, or "Super S-detectives, hear a word with the S sound, they hold up their stop sign.) In addition, I included an independent worksheet that the children have to identify which school supplies on the handout start with the letter s sound. (Ex.Stapler)
