I’m not sure about you, but I have had a group or two of super-silly kiddos along the years! I have always wanted, but couldn’t find, a measurable scale that helped them self-reflect on their level of silliness. So, with the help of a few friends, I made one and now I use it every year!
This package includes a single page handout (easy to print and post in the classroom or send home to families), materials to create a large scale poster, a cut and paste activity to use when introducing the silly scale with your students, sentences to print for use in a pocket chart, and more!
I hope you love this scale as much as I do. With clear introductions and consistent support and expectations, this scale works! I have witnessed this help a group of majorly silly kindergarten boys reign in their behavior, self-monitor their silliness, and find ways to balance their silliness with effective learning and play.
The Silly Scale consists of 5 levels:
“I am too silly for school. My body is unsafe and my voice is too loud.”
“I am silly but I am safe. I am using my outdoor voice.”
“I keep laughing with an indoor voice and need one adult reminder to go back to Level 1.”
“I laugh one time with an indoor voice and go back to Level 1 by myself.”
“I am calm and focused.”
