This read-to-learn activity lists characteristics of each of the six kingdoms but then links these characteristics to their ecological roles. The animal kingdom, for example, consists almost exclusively of consumers. Plants are pretty much all producers, and fungi are mostly decomposers. Protists, eubacteria, and archaebacteria, on the other hand, are very varied in their methids of obtaining nutrition and are therefore also varied in their ecological roles. Students are asked to organize the information in the reading to aid in comprehension and demonstrate understanding. This reading is suitable for with middle- or high-school-aged learners.
