Do you need a new way to teach and practice the Ling 6 sounds for a new listener? The purpose of this deck is to help teach the Ling Six Sounds to children with hearing loss. The first card introduces all 6 sounds and their corresponding pictures. The second card introduces the concept of "no sound." Each of the following 35 cards plays a Ling Six Sound (or no sound) that is 2-3 seconds long. There are two picture choices, one of which is the object/animal associated with the sound played. The child then selects which object/animal makes the sound that was played and the next card is presented.
The sound automatically plays when the card switches, but can be played again by clicking the "ear" button.
What are the Learning To Listen Sounds?
The Ling Six Sound Test was created by Daniel Ling and is ultimately a quick, no-tech method to make sure a child's hearing aids/cochlear implants are functioning properly throughout the day. However, when children first receive cochlear implants and/or hearing aids, they must learn to detect and identify the sounds in a structured way.
Who is this resource for?
This resource is for children who are very new listeners with little experience with listening.
What is significant about the 6 sounds (ah, oo, ee, s, sh, m)?
The sounds represent a broad spectrum of the English speech sounds.
Why are is teaching 'no sound' important?
While we place more emphasis on teaching children that sounds have meaning, it's also important for children to learn to identify when there is an absence of sound.
