The Smart Teacher’s Guide to teaching document-based persuasive writing or how to teach those darn DBQ’s. (Document Based Questions)
I don’t know about you but as a social studies teacher, teaching DBQs is the bane of my existence.
Of course, when I change hats and teach language arts, I just can’t get those kids to “get” persuasive writing, let alone use text to inform their answers.
But alas, after ten years, two masters degrees, and a Ph.D., I think I might have compiled a bunch of stuff that will at least help you get started.
I have included tools to help students get, organize, understand, and use the information from their documents and parlay that into an essay-like format.
Good luck and please, if you have any ideas please let me know on my blog: firstname.lastname@example.org.
