This file is a companion to the book “The snowy day” and contains activities to teach math with pictures. It is aimed at the Kindergarten- Grade 1 level. It has a winter theme.
Positional Words: will help students to learn positional words such as "inside", "between", in front of", " to the left of", "around", etc.. Learning this vocabulary will enhance the students' ability to follow and give directions and to use language precisely.
Patterns: Introducing the concept of patterns to students. Pages contain a lot sets of "pattern" strips.
Tally Chart, Graphs: This is a quick activity for a center, small group, or whole class. Students either spin the spinner or roll the dice or ask each other about their favorite snowy games or drinks, record each other’s choices, create graphs using the data, and analyze the graph. It could be used as an assessment as well.
The file is offered in color but it can be printed in black and white, too. To do this, click on the "print" button, go to the "settings" section and on the drop down arrow beside the "colour", choose "gray scale" and print. This will produce the activities in a gray scale (black and white).
