This short story centers around a young boy named Douglass and his extreme obsession to buy a new pair of sneakers. It seems as though this was written for our students today!! Very cute story.
It will take about 50-70 minutes for the students to complete the 50 question worksheet (depending on the student).

As a public high school English teacher, the biggest challenge I have is getting students to read in class or at home. Put a book or short story in front of them, they'll look at it for a few seconds and start day dreaming...
Until I stumbled upon something magnificent. Teenagers like accomplishment. These worksheets ask questions while the reader reads. Every couple of sentences, there's another question in true or false, fill in the blank, define, multiple choice formats. As the student reads, boom, another question. They answer it and continue reading. Before you know it, they have finished reading the story and completed all questions for further lessons/discussions. Questions are not higher level "why" type questions. These questions are designed to keep the reader engaged while reading the story.
These worksheets are great for daily lessons, test/quiz grades, extra credit, homework, group work (in pairs of two), substitute teacher lessons, emergency lesson plans, great for ESOL or however you can imagine.
