An introduction to research on the South Pole. This packet is meant for students who are just learning how to write a research paper. This is an interactive packet with questions, graphs, pictures, and a template on how to write an essay.
This packet has many different interactive elements to it, questions to help them engage with the material, and compare their world with life in the South Pole. There are vocab words included, and definitions in tandem to the text.
Included is a partially filled out table that asks students to figure out which seasons happen for the different hemispheres. In this section it covers the midnight sun, and the long nights for the South Pole. At the end of this section there is a short answer section that asks students to think about living in complete darkness or in complete daylight.
A big section of the research is talking about the research lab that is in the South Pole and the different research they do. Discussing topics like, Global warming, flooding, and rising sea levels.
After the research article is a guided process to help students begin to think about writing their own research paper. Picking out topics for their body paragraphs, and helping them to use evidence from the text and explaining what the evidence they picked means. There are multiple pages of web maps to help them put together their paper.
