Welcome to the Paper Space Race! In this activity-based lesson, your students will learn more about the Space Race and the competition between the US and the USSR through informational text analysis and a competitive paper airplane design that simulates the Space Race.
INCLUDED IN THIS LESSON:
- An opening Corners activity to help students form initial impressions
- A team DBQ activity where students will read various non-fiction articles and a speech by JFK. These articles focus on the social, technological, and political aspects of the Space Race.
- A quiz competition created on Google Slides! The winner will have more materials to design and build the best paper airplane.
- Discussion questions throughout the lesson to encourage debate!
-BONUS Take Home/Extension Activity: Students will take a scavenger hunt sheet home and find Space Race technology in their own lives. This extension also includes several ideas for discussion and debate for the next lesson!
